Eyes on the ball II

Tim Henman in action this afternoon at the Champions of Tennis seniors' tournament taking place in Edinburgh this weekend at the Edinburgh Accies sports ground in Stockbridge. He lost his match against Thomas Enqvist in the deciding third set. That was followed by a very entertaining doubles match between Mark Philippoussis and Wayne Ferreira and Mikael Pernfors and Goran Ivanisevic - played very much for laughs, with no end of trick shots and tricksy scoring!

On the way down to Stockbridge I passed a man wearing a white zipped top with a LUFC Centenary Cup Final 1972 logo on the chest. Made me wonder whether it was original or a replica, and if it was original where he had got it. Had he kept it in the wardrobe and recently decided, what the heck, let's wear this top again? There was even a bit of me that wondered as I walked on whether he had a connection with the team. He looked old enough - could he even be a player in that team? But why on earth would one of the Leeds FA Cup winning team be walking through central Edinburgh on a Friday afternoon in an old tracksuit top? Probably just a fan who bought a replica top recently to relive the glory days. But that's the dull answer to the question I never asked, but now wish I had!

In the evening L and I went to see a couple of films in the Film Festival - one set in Iceland about a miraculous survival story following the sinking of a fishing boat from the Westman Islands, called The Deep, and the other set in Brazil about the US poet Elizabeth Bishop, called Reaching for the Moon. The second was the better of the two but both were interesting.
