On the Monsal Trail

Patricia - an old friend - had heard about the waxwing flocks at Hassop, and wanted to take a look. We'd put today in our diaries some time ago, for a walk together. So we headed for Hassop and the Monsal Trail, taking Patricia's lurcher Hector along too.
Although there were tiny snowflakes falling when we left Sheffield, they soon gave way to brilliant blue skies.  We did find some waxwings too, attracting small clusters of contented birdwatchers and photographers.
On the way back Hector decided to take off across the neighbouring fields, perhaps having caught sight or scent of a hare.  Lurchers love a wide open space to run in. He's usually responsive to Patricia's calls and whistles, but this time it was some 20 minutes before he finally decided to come back, much to our relief.
Then in the afternoon I met Frieda from school, and took her back to Jack and Marianna's. Richard and I haven't seen much of her recently, so it was lovely to reconnect.
Otherwise... what can I say about the relentless rise of Trump, other than to register real fear about what may happen in the US in November, and what a second Trump presidency could mean.
