Last light

Driving down the avenue just before sunset. It's normal for the plane trees to shed bits of bark during the summer -- it's what gives them their mottled appearance. But last summer was so hot and dry they are practically peeled and they glow when the low sun hits them. Contrast with the weather in last year's blip, taken from more or less the same spot.

It's been sunny but chilly today ... no sign of any storm. I went to my book group this evening, enjoyable as usual. We discussed Demon Copperhead, postponed from November. Everyone found it impressive and agreed we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. I drove home in the dark and was glad to snuggle up by the fire with Mystère.
