Sunny Day in Chelem

We started our day at a local ex pat restaurant called Taco Maya where we both ordered crispy breakfast quesadillas (see extra) which have a fun name - Crispadillas. Delish!

We explored the town, seeing sights such as the truck that collects junk, another collecting coconuts, and one of the many Tuk Tuks - motorcycles or motorized bikes modified to carry passengers…the local taxis. My sister explained that the coconut collector will ask to take the coconuts from one’s palm trees, which is necessary when they’re ripe so they don’t fall off, which they in turn sell to restaurants or the vendors who sell coconut crema or pies and cookies on the side of the road. Fascinating and mutually advantageous cooperative economy here.

We visited the location on the Ria where the fisherman keep their boats when they’re not fishing. And the local Fruiteria where we purchased fresh produce and eggs.

We thought we’d go into the city today but by the time we got home we were longing for the warm, salty ocean where we whiled away a couple of lovely hours.

My return home is beginning to loom…hard to believe I’ve been here a week. It’s been a fabulous adventure.
