Lozarhythm Of The Day:
The Long Ryders - I Can't Hide (recorded February 1985, Los Angeles CA)
Another day, another magazine cover disc, this time from the March 2024 Mojo which arrived on the mat this morning. Jet Powered Pop! is themed around the genre of power pop and the cover is a pastiche of the picture sleeve for the Wings single Jet. I haven't especially equated the Beatles with power pop, although they of course covered very many styles of music from country and R&B to avant garde, but this collection includes two Beatles covers and a Wings cover. I have chosen a new-to-me selection by Sid Griffin's band, The Long Ryders. The song was a revival of the Flamin' Groovies from their 1976 album Shake Some Action, and was recorded for an album to be called 5 By 5 that was jettisoned when they signed to a major label before it came out. I Can't Hide did appear in 1986 on a free flexi-disc where the band were billed as the Spinning Wighats.
