The Lozarithm Lens

Loki, God of Mischief (Tuesday 23rd January 2024)

Going back to Trowbridge to reclaim my camera gave me another opportunity for a Loki photo session. He posed somewhat reluctantly.

Earlier I'd called in at Dick Lovett's for a Q&A about Buzz and been shown the first appearance of some of the forthcoming 2024 range of Mini Coopers. I sat inside a Countryman to see the new uncluttered look of the controls and interior which will be common to all models.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Melanie - Ruby Tuesday (recorded 1970, Wessex Studios, London)
R.I.P. Melanie Safka (3 February 1947, Queens, New York NY - 23 January 2024)
Melanie (vcl, gtr) with Alan Parker (gtr), Alan Hawkshaw ( kbds, org), Harold McNair (flute), Herbie Flowers ( bass gtr), Barry Morgan (drums),
Lee Holdridge (string arrangement)

I had a couple of Melanie's singles and her Lay Down (Candles In The Wind) vinyl album in 1970, and her version of the Stones' Ruby Tuesday was always a favourite. The strings were added in New York.
The song evolved from a basic melody Brian Jones brought in to the studio in 1966 and helped arrange. Although credited to Jagger/Richards Mick Jagger had nothing to do with the composition. The lyric was by Keith Richards and was written for Linda Keith, his fashion model ex-girlfriend (Who could hang a name on you/ When you change with every new day?/ Still, I'm gonna miss you). She had moved to New York and hooked up with Jimi Hendrix (introducing him to Chas Chandler, thus leading to the formation of the Jimi Hendrix Experience).
