Sagrada

Did we save the best for last?

Up early again as booked the Sagrada visit the night before for 9:30. Another gorgeous day in Barcelona. About 20 mins walk from our hotel but we had coffee and croissant first in a nice Cafe near the Sagrada. The streets were quiet on the way to it but changed to pretty busy near the Sagrada. We had the audio guide from the app which was good.

I was absolutely blown away stepping through the door . The size, the colours the imagination to actually design something so beautiful and the stain glass . It was a sensory overload at first but then took it piece by piece to get the full effect.

We had almost two hours there and then it was time for lunch. Which proved more difficult as wanted somewhere outside to make the most of the sun. It was busy as it was Saturday so the locals were also competing for tables. We’ve pretty much just walked into everywhere this week and got a table but not today . We ended up in Zenith again near our hotel as it had a free table outdoors luckily as we passed by it.

Eggs again, their delicious coffee and we were re-fuelled to attack the afternoon.

Nearby was a bus stop which took us to Placa Espanya for a walk up the steps to the columns and palace where we were during the week. We walked past the Olympic stadium which Barca are playing there atm which the Nou Camp gets an upgrade. There was a game later on and the stalls were open selling the gear. We wanted to get right to the top of the hill and get the cable car back down to the funicular and then the metro to La Rambla then On to the Gothic area where we would eat and then have the delicious ice cream again.

In the way to the cable car we stopped in an outdoor cafe which was playing blues music so we stopped there for a refreshment. Warm sun, good music and people watching. Perfect.

The view from the top at the cable car was good looking down to the harbour. Jumped in the cable car and we were sharing with a Dutch couple . He had worked up in Aberdeen and had cycled the NC500. It was funny when he said he understands English but couldn’t understand the Aberdonian accent and the only person he could converse with was an Australian! I reassured him that we also have difficulty with the strong Aberdeen twang! Lol

The La Rambla area was busy - we crossed over into the narrow street towards the Cathedral, listened to a couple of street musicians. Into a Cafe for tapas for tea. I asked for risotto but I didn’t like it as it was more soupy so S ate that Along with his two courses! He doesn’t like waste…. I ordered langoustines in garlic sauce which came with bread to dip in. There were loads and delicious!

Along to Oggi’s for the best gelato ever , a wander to a pastry shop for a pastry for the flight back tomorrow. Going to miss these excellent bakery shops, everywhere! Back to the hotel for a cuppa and to pack. That didn’t take long, a wee Ryanair size backpack and an EasyJet size one for S. Travelling light is the way to go.

Alarm set for 4:30…..
