The Lozarithm Lens

The Woodland Garden (Thursday 1st February 2024)

It has been a fortnight since my first tentative blips in the 2024 Woodland Garden so at lunchtime I did a second tour with a camera. More hellabore buds are appearing and a couple now have upturned faces, and the budding snowdrops have now opened their petals (see Extra). Not much else has changed - no sign of the crocii, daffs or forsythia as yet but some weeding is definitely overdue.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Donovan - Epistle to Derroll (recorded March 1967, London)
In 1967 Donovan released a lavishly illustrated box set under the title A Gift From A Flower To A Garden. It contained two vinyl albums, Wear Your Love Like Heaven and For Little Ones, each bursting with creativity both in song, lyric and performance. Later both albums were made available separately, and in the CD age both were included on a single disc that clocked in at just over an hour. Having long lost the vinyl albums I recently bought the 2009 CD remaster and have been enjoying it afresh. This song is mostly Donovan telling a story, just singing and finger picking, and it is dedicated to his mentor, American folk musician Derroll Adams.
