. . . and Down the Hatch

Having missed the kingfisher yesterday, I went an hour earlier today - only to be told by a hide occupant that "It left 5 minutes ago".  Luckily, 10 minutes later, it came back.

It repeatedly plunged for small fish and each time successfully came up with its prize.  Once though, it dropped its dinner but promptly retrieved it.

Although someone had placed some tempting perches close to the hide, mister kingfisher preferred to use more distant natural vegetation under dark overhanging trees - not the best conditions for photography.

Kingfisher, male, Alcedo atthis
