Still Life

The Carry On book Club decided we did not want to read anything depressing or violent…Still LIfe by Sarah Winman fit the bill perfectly today!   (Recommended by blipper nanzy19).   It’s joyful and entertaining!  An antidote to Brexit.    A wonderful cast of characters over 30 years beginning in 1944 in Italy  and full of art and found family, empathy and kindness..  A bit of magical realism and whimsy ..we all loved it!    This “still life” is the dregs of our Tiramisu on an Italian platter,  domestic, familiar, trivial…it’s a “celebration of habits that maintain life” to quote the author.
Forster’s Room with a view is definitely incorporated into this novel…oh my..I watched the 1986 one  last night with a young Maggie Smith and Judy Dench.    Maybe I’ll watch the 2007 one tonight…..
Today we had 7 members!   The two with memory problems can’t read a book but want to come so the deal is that they are brought and picked up door to door by family or Uber so none of the rest are responsible to see they don’t ruin out in the street (as has happened.)  So that worked today.  Yea!

And btw….the new router did NOT fix the internet problem at the island ! So far can’t connect with the company. :-(
