Calne Town Gardens (Monday 19th February 2024)

Interesting to see how much further on the plants in the sunnier Town Gardens are compared to my woodland garden. Luckily, I can enjoy both.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Congos - Congoman (recorded 1976-1977, Black Ark Studios, Jamaica)
Probably the best summation of Lee 'Scratch Perry's work as producer and engineer is the album Heart of The Congos by the Congos, whose 3CD edition of the album on VP Records I recently acquired and played on this day. The album was first released in a 1978 remix by Lee Perry and acquired legendary status, but his original mix was made available in 2004, included in this box set alongside various singles, Disco mixes and dubs, all featuring house band the Upsetters. This is the extended original 12" mix released in the UK in 1977 on the Black Swan label (it also appeared in the US on Mango). The Congos (sometimes spelled Congoes) were essentially a duo, consisting of Cedric Myton (falsetto vocal) and Roydel Johnson (Congo Ashanti Roy)(tenor vcl) but on most of the tracks, Lee Perry added a third member, Watty 'King' Burnett (baritone vcl).
