Ancient history

Up early and off to the airport this morning. The flight was on time and trouble free, I whizzed through immigration in Manchester (no queue!), and this is the first time I’ve been in Manchester and it wasn’t raining … bright sunshine!

It then took me an hour and a half to pick up the rental car from the cheap off-airport company whose computer system had crashed — the two employees were having a frustrating day. But eventually instead of a boring Polo I was issued with a sprightly little Corsa which was a pleasure to drive, even in the ghastly M62 traffic. The moors were looking beautiful in the sunshine, with a light dusting of snow on the tops.

I was here by four, feeling fairly exhausted. We can’t go and visit S’s mum due to the care home having an outbreak of gastroenteritis and being on lockdown. But hopefully we will get there later in the week. A quiet evening with dinner cooked by S of salmon in a ginger and citrus sauce with chips and peas. Delicious.

He’s been sorting out cupboards and drawers and produced this blast from the past, Stratford-on-Avon in 1985. Happy days!
