New Visitor

After tottering around from one foot to the other, this red-legged partridge (Alectoris rufa) finally stepped over and through the metal bars of the gate. It happily pecked around our front garden for some time. According to my bird book, these partridges like dry agricultural land. That would explain why it didn't visit the back garden, which, after pouring rain day and night, remains a quagmire.

Had a card and phone chat from/with my son today, and daughter's calling later as it's Mothering Sunday, or Mother's Day in the UK today. Feeling lucky!
