Iceland Day 4

A fantastic day today - very difficult to choose a single image which encapsulates the day.

After breakfast, we drove eastwards, stopping off at Núpstaður to photograph some traditional turf roofed buildings. Towards the end of our time there, the rain eased off and the weather then improved throughout the rest of the day.

Stopping off a couple of times on the way to capture the amazing views, we eventually reached the Skaftafell National Park. After a lunch break, we climbed the steep hill in hot sunshine to reach this stunning view over the glacier. With only light clouds over the peaks and little or no haze, we could see for miles - amazing (and quite unexpected) weather conditions.

Some of you will recognise the photographer here as John Gravett, our photographic leader for the tour. The volcanic ash stained glacier behind him is probably 1500ft or more below.

After a long but very enjoyable day, the Icelandic meat soup served at our guesthouse was very welcome.

[Back blipped because my laptop died just before the trip - and internet access was not available at all our locations.]
