Dangerous Ford

Although BB is injured, he was keen to go along and watch rugby and football.  Rugby was called off last night, due to water logged pitches and football was called off today as the opposition couldn’t muster a team.  The day was unexpectedly ours.

It was a beautiful morning, which was in complete contrast to the weather over the past week or so, which has been truly miserable, grey and damp – really dreich.  The washing machine was on – and the washing was hung out – all three loads of it.  Later in the morning, I decided to go for a quick walk around the block to enjoy the most welcome sunshine.

TT was on lunch when I got back – paninis all round, which were delicious.  He was complaining of a football injury, but I thought a walk might do him good.  We drove over to East Linton, with no real plan in mind.  We ended up walking down the River Tyne to Knowes, then back again, around by Phantassie Doocot and Preston Mill, before walking back through the village, stopping off in the bookshop.  It’s  a very small shop, and there were four of us in there – two couples.  The other lady was quite unbearable, she was looking for a proper book, not a trash book.  The  shop keeper suggested a couple of good reads to her – and her first question was, is it a trash book?!  She kept asking the assistant about a book I have read, but I didn’t feel like giving her my opinion, following up with I’m not sure I like the author though!  She ended up buying two books – one was a proper book, one was a trash book – those were her words.  Her long-suffering husband didn’t say much.  TT and I left with two books each –  I’m not sure how she would classify them – proper or trash!!.

We came home via the supermarket where TT picked up a leg of lamb and a bag of charcoal.  While the boys were having burgers for tea (and I had fish), TT decided to cook them on the barbeque, so he could also cook a leg of lamb, as I can’t stand the smell of lamb.  While it had been  alvoely day, he barbequed in the rain – but the burgers and lamb, went down a treat.  My fish was ok too!

BB was ensconced in front of the rugby and wasn’t terribly happy.  Later we sat through the England game.  After all that,  BB decided to get his cello out for some Saturday evening practice (second extra), but was rather too interested in the TV!

This is a “dangerous ford” according to the signs at either side.  Definitely dangerous today, with all that water in the river.  We were intrigued by all these bicycles, which we walked past (extra).
