Making sure he is not forgotten as a keeper

A shortened work week, thanks to Easter – as next week’s will be too. The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board has decided, in its wisdom and out of an abundance of caution, to give all schoolkids the day off next Monday, because of the… solar eclipse. I’m really not sure what I think about this. The logic is that parents are in a better position to stop their children looking directly at the sun as the eclipse takes place. In other words, they are shifting blame. While it is wise to not have children staring directly at the sun, as far as I know, no parents are being given the day off – so they are unlikely to be supervising their children at the exact moment the end of the world eclipse takes place. Indeed, if the weather is nice, there will more likely be many more children outside playing. Only in Canada.

Today was a quieter day. Mrs Ottawacker is at a conference all week, so I was walking like a lost soul from room to room during the day, and then running around with Ottawacker Jr in the evening. Actually, it is the first time I have been well enough to take him to soccer try outs of late – so I stayed and watched. Because of his elbow issues, he is unable to play in goal at the moment, so is being reconverted into a defender. He may have to play higher up the pitch, as he scored four goals this evening. I think he is also making sure that anyone playing in net during the try out process will have conceded a significant number of goals – thus ensuring he is not overlooked when he puts the gloves back on again. Here he is about to take the penalty for his fourth.
