The Signing

The exam results were posted today with smiles, tears and tantrums following soon after. It often comes as a shock to students that performing poorly throughout the year and not getting the course they want are connected.

Many accept their fate and sign up for the culinary and service courses once they realise the more prestigious diploma course is out of their academic reach. Others stomp about and threaten to bring in their parents in the hope that a little influential wasta will get them what they want.

This is Safiya signing her way into the ITM (International Tourism Management) Diploma for next year. Her bottom lip was quivering with excitement when I told her she'd got in. Bless.
