All go

Woke early to try and sort myself out….made up beds, brought in the rest of the stuff from P’s and shifted furniture around to accommodate the TV in the spare room, etc etc. Cleaned up the kitchen and then drove down to Lannan bakery to get some pastries for Mt but having paid for a parking space I then found it was closed for filming,,,,grr! I’ll try tomorrow
Home and did the food shopping for their arrival then spent some more time trying to track down P’s friends/relatives but not having a lot of luck… combination of a lack of addresses, ex directory phone numbers or indecipherable writing in his address book. Not helped by the lists of friends and family he wrote recently which include several who it now appears are long dead.
Reviewed a paper and talked it over with VG then it was time to go and collect Mt and the weans from the train station. Chaos from the minute they arrived…full of stories of the train, what they’d been reading, what they’re looking forward to doing here, what bedroom they want etc etc etc!
We came home and had some tea and cakes and they dived into setting up their rooms, opening their presents from Borneo, watching videos and talking non stop. After Mt had had a chance to chill out a bit I left him to do some work whilst I took them out to climb the volcano (Mx’s idea…which he got less keen on the closer we got to it!)
Chatting about mud and spinning stories about their new orangutan and proboscis monkey soft toys that they named Khai and Guy. There was quite a wind so I was pleased they didn’t want to climb very much, but they posed on this rock to pretend they were at the top and send the photo to their Mum and Dad to show how brave they were. Decided to go over between Arthur’s Seat and the crags and walk down on the path that had turned into a bit of a stream. More talk of mud, what worms were doing in the stream, how far they could throw stones, what they’ve been doing on holiday so far and what their dog’s been up to.
We stopped at the shop on the way back for some last minute things for supper that I’d forgotten then home to make their pizza and our asparagus pasta. Of course the pizza had the ‘wrong’ cheese on and they didn’t want to finish the cucumber up, but we got there in the end.
Mx said he was going to make a comic tomorrow and that he’d let me help with the details but wouldn’t give me too much to do because I’m older and “older people are delicate”!! He didn’t appreciate it when I said they have way more in their brains though…he was firmly focussed on the greater likelihood of me breaking my bones!
Finally wrangled them into their beds and sat down with a G&T. We half watched Repair Shop and Race across the world whilst Mt did some more work and I did more funeral prep. Chatted to A a bit about other people she’d found via Facebook and replied to emails from those who I’ve contacted so far.
We watched the first of the Jim Al-Khalili series on the scale of the universe that Laura recommended…fascinating!
