First cut silage done.....

One of those days again.
Kev on mucking out. Me on feeding and mixing and bagging bruised barley.
Cows on calving mode but not going well. Still not sure the cow and calf I brought in yesterday is sucking properly, but it's not dead so must be getting some.
M23 looked like she was thinking about it this morning,so at lunch time, took the terriers for a walk across to the field. Could see through the binoculars that she had calved ( as far away from the gate as possible) but the calf looked dead. So walked back home, shut the dogs in the kitchen and headed off out on the quad. By the time I got there she had calved another one but it was stone dead, encased in the sack. Bugger me,I was only away 10 minutes.
So back home, nabbed Kev and a trailer and headed back out to try and get her in.
Put both calves in the trailer but she wouldn't play ball,so tied one to a rope and dragged it behind the trailer. She followed not too bad until we got near the steading then she buggered off. So left one calf in the field and came home. Will try her in the morning and see if she has enough milk to justify buying a calf to twin on. As usual ,she would kill you as soon as look at you,so should be fun !
Another one calved tonight,so hopefully it has sucked by tomorrow morning.
The hill lambing has started too,so we need the weather to improve, not to mention not having any barley sown yet. It's going to be one of those years I think.
Decided to cut the back lawn tonight, but forgot the drive cable on the lawn mower snapped last year,so had to shove it up and down. Still, keeps you fit ( aye,fit to drop !)
