Suck cess....

A dry day for a change. Once I had all the inside cattle fed,headed out to check the calving cows. H13 ,which calved about 7 pm last night, had moved to another bit of the field . Her teats didn't look like they had been sucked and the calf wasn't full,so managed to struggle the calf over the bike fuel tank and headed for home with mum in hot pursuit. One dodgy moment when the calf stood on the gear leaver and knocked it into neutral bringing us to a grinding halt. I had a nice close up of mums nose in my face before we set off again.
Once I had milked some out her and got the calf sucking the bottle it took the hint and I managed to get it to suck 3 teats . Shut them in a pen and hopefully that should be them sorted.
Sent Kev and Charlie up to the hill lambing field with big straw bales and some gates to get things ready as this side starts lambing next week.
Eventually managed to rally in yesterday's cow with the dead twins. Skinned one of them and stuck it on a spare calf and shut them in another pen. Hopefully it will have sucked by the morning,but not so sure it was love at first sight. We shall see.....
