Quod oculus meus videt

Watching You, Watching Me

For a non rider, two sessions in the saddle yesterday was a bit too much, so I opted for game drives today.  The morning was bright and clear, albeit with a strong wind. We saw many different species, including elan, impala, kudu, wildebeest, warthogs, baboons and zebra, but it was the giraffes that left a lasting impression. Their elegance is wonderful and we came across this nursing group quite early on. For the die hard wildlife photographers, they will critique it by saying there are an even number in the shot, but I just loved that they were all staring us down.

I was also chuffed to get a lilac breasted roller in flight (see extra) and it was a hard choice which took top spot.

In the afternoon we were taken to meet a two week old horse foal at the stables called Saba, before going on to the breeding ground.  This is protected by a double electrified fence.  Here, they can control breeding and make sure that new born get the best chance at survival. No predators in the enclosure, though we did see the dominant cape buffalo, Juma. You certainly wouldn’t argue with him.

We are seeing off another couple, Ben and Debbie tomorrow as well as a German family who arrived for a couple of nights.
