Real gardening

A beautiful day today!  Spent some time this morning going through my outdoor collection of potted plants, weeding, top-dressing or chucking - the odd plant hasn't made it through the winter.

Drove down to the station after lunch to pick up Daughter Two from Edinburgh, here to stay for a few days. Apparently the weather has been getting steadily better the closer to Oban she travelled! Makes a change!

Carried on with the plants for a while and then dragged the lounger outside and sat in the sun with a book. After reading all the Gerald Durrell books for many years, including the Corfu Trilogy, I'm enjoying 'The Durrells of Corfu' by Michael Haag, probably more truthful than most of Gerald's writing!

I've been meaning for a while to photograph some of the large rhododendrons in a neighbour's garden along the road, but having left it rather late some of them have gone over. This was originally a fairly large garden, but several houses have now been built on the site. Still beautiful though - good to see big specimens instead of the much more popular dwarfs.

Quote of the Day: 'Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.' — Luther Burbank.
