Remember yesterday's woes with the gas works? Well we got home last night to find a handwritten note that our gas had been disconnected, with a mobile number to call. Duly done the chap said he'd be there in 10 minutes to reconnect it, but to call another number for Scotia Gas Networks to send someone to purge and reload the system before we could use it.

Give the guy his due, he turned up in decent time. He couldn't tell me how they could have disconnected the supply without coming onto the property over a garden wall, but the good news is that at some point in time before we moved in the gas pipes had already been upgraded, so they only needed to run a new pipe from the main to our pipe (hence the need to disconnect us). And we couldn't be reconnected without someone there to explain that the system also needed to be purged othrewise we might blow ourselves up. Which wouldn't be the best way to spend an evening.

The next chap turned up within the hour promised, and within 5 minutes had us gassed up again. It's all still an absolute shambles, but I'm glad that's us done - and this morning they appeared to be starting to fuill in the trench dug in the street. All of which is a damned sight better than I felt when first getting in and finding out we had no gas and no way of cooking dinner.
