Lowland Heath

An enjoyable day with my sister at RSPB Arne. I love lowland heathland, a now much diminished habitat in southern England. It was fairly quiet in terms of birds - this cool and wet Spring does seem to be holding the season back a bit. But we heard our first cuckoo of the year, and latterly did manage to spot the ever reclusive dartford warblers. No reptiles today (the reserve has all six UK species), probably a good thing as S has a phobia about snakes.
