All of Canterbury is here

Mountains, sea, plains, lakes, rivers - all that makes the red and black province is here to be seen in this view from Kinloch Hill above Little River.

Today's scene even included some backlit Nor'West cloud over the Alps, just to top it off.

From this viewpoint it's also possible to see all of Kaitorete Spit - the slither of land between Lake Ellesmere/Te Waihora and the wild pacific ocean. At the top left corner of the lake it's also possible to see the lake outlet at Taumutu, which is currently open to allow some of the high waters to drain out to the sea.

Someone even managed to give me a bonfire in the middle distance, just to add another point of interest.

With views like this, it's easy to see why New Zealand is also known as Aotearoa - the Land of the Long White Cloud.

I reckon this one is definitely worth a look LARGE
