Rook Up Close

Nothing but rain on Skye today, for our farewell. We had a free hour or so this morning before Liz and Steve drove us to the ferry from Armadale to Mallaig, and I took some more shots at their feeder through the eating area window. The branch that I'd set up as a perch was beside the point for this large bird--I was shooting from the back of the room.

Rooks (Corvus frugilegus) are about the size of Carrion Crows or the American Crow (or a bit smaller). But they don't seem especially common, and we had not closely seen any before this trip.

Once on the mainland, we took the train from Mallaig through Fort Williams to Glasgow, with rain most of the way. The scenery is just wonderful, even in the terrible weather. But I attempted only a few photos (and tree along the track rarely allow fully open views for more than a few seconds).
