Dark Side of the Telescope

To Jodrell Bank for their now annual series of Transmission open air concert. We attended the same event last year where we got royally rained on whilst watchimg the mighty Elbow. This year the weather couldn't have been more different. It was very warm and without a cloud in the sky.
Headliners this year were The Australian Pink Floyd Show supported by space rock veterans Hawkwind. Hawkwind seemingly love the Theremin, though they fortunately chose to leave the ring modulator at home (which had the capacity to make people faint at a certain pitch). A nice touch from them was that crusty old leader Dave Brock dedicated Motorhead to ex-Hawkwind member Lemmy who is currently very ill in hospital (Lemmy wrote thesong Motorhead for Hawkwind). No Stacia, unfortunately, but we did get some female dancers on costumes that looked as though they were made for a school play.
To the headliners then, they're the best tribute band in the business who feature an ex-neighbour of mine on lead guitar. It's great to see them playing in big venues in Europe and North America as well as headlining at events like this. I can remember them playing universities, arts centres and tiny provincial theatres whilst building up a word-of-mouth following.
Oh, very rarely do I use this word, but the Lovell telescope is the very definition of the word 'awesome'.
