Climbing as planned wasn't going to happen today due to that incessant wet stuff, so I set off for a local walk, calling at the allotment to check on things on my way. I'd thought there might be some mangetout peas for picking but no, not yet, so I just collected a bunch of beet leaves to go with my dinner.
At least the rain means I don't need to water and everything seems to be growing... although I replenished the slug stuff. On the allotment Fb group I follow someone had suggested placing cucumber slices next to your seedlings which, if it works, would be cheaper than slug killer... except that you're just encouraging them! Beet leaves in a bag I continued with my walk, but got drenched halfway round by a heavy shower.
After lunch I determined to tackle the front hedge, a mix of forsythia, cotoneaster and flowering currant. I did trim it after it had flowered, but obviously not hard enough and anyway all this rain....! I easily filled the brown bin, but then had a break because of another, yes you've guessed it, heavy shower, but went out again later and finished the job. I've reduced the height by at least three foot and the width by about two.
I'll most likely not get any flowers next spring so note to self, keep on top of it in future.
