Today was an interesting if tiring day, but all my days lately have been tiring! The hut's great, we'd all like to go again, plenty of parking, great situation and a nice layout inside. We cleaned and tidied and decided what we'd do before driving home. I wanted to go to Morecambe  which luckily was on the way home.

In 1975 my partner and I worked at Pontins Holiday Camp at Heysham and then got a flat in Morecambe over the winter as we were being kept on, before moving to another camp for the summer of 1976. I've good and bad memories of the year and I hadn't been back since... so 49 years ago!

I walked most of the way along the prom, from East End to West, having a cup of tea in a beach front café in order to use the toilet, but discovering they were the other side of the building and cost 40p. Huh I wasn't paying that and anyway didn't have any cash - I'd given my last £5 to Mountain Rescue at Tebay Services! So I carried on walking until I found Morrisons and free toilets. Shortly after that I turned round and walked back to that café as I'd noticed that pensioner's could have fish, chips and mushy peas for £7.95 which I didn't think was bad and would save me cooking tonight. It was very nice!

I got back to the car, turned round and did a bit of shopping in Morrisons, including a new, bigger suitcase. The M6 was bearable and although very busy it kept moving, and most importantly there weren't many idiots.

Verdict:
In 1975 neither Morrisons nor Aldi existed in Morecombe, if at all, there seems to be a lot of scaffolding up on houses on the seafront, so thats good, the roads approaching Morecambe were unrecognisable not surprisingly, and the seawall has been greatly improved. There was a night that I remember vividly, a stormy sea rushing down the nearby roads, clinging onto lamp posts in order to avoid being blown away, reaching the pub !!! and seeing the spray/rain crashing onto the windows, and boats in the streets in the morning. I can't find any information online, but I remember our friends' basement flat on the front was completely flooded!

At home I've found tiny tomatoes on all three (different) plants :-) I hope it's the same at the allotment, I'll see tomorrow.
