All Saints Anglican Church, Henley Brooke, Swan Valley W.A...

The oldest Church in W.A built between 1838-1840.

The back of the Church overlooks the Swan River, Captain James Stirling first camped here on high ground as he was unable to go further upstream due to lack of navigational water, this was during his 1827 exploration of this area, he sailed to Perth on the ship H.M.S Success, from England. He later became the Governor of the Swan River Colony.
while he was stranded here he wrote in his diary;
"The richness of the soil, the bright foliage of the shrubs, the majesty of the surrounding trees, the abrupt and red colour banks of the river occasionally seen, and the view of the blue mountains from which we were not far distant, made the scenery of this spot as beautiful as anything of the kind i have ever witnessed"
(We feel the same when we go back here, a beautiful spot indeed)

When he returned to establish the colony in 1829 he created three settlements, Fremantle, Perth and Guildford, which is at the Southern end of the Sawn Valley region, many descendants of the early settlers still live in the Guildford area today.

All Saints Church was built at the site of Stirling's 1827 camp. Another suburb close by is Ellenbrook named after his wife.

Without these early explorers our culture wouldn't be what it is today.
We are now growing into a multi cultural society with people from all over the world. its a wonderful thing and a lot to be learnt from it.
