A Dog's Dinner

Pilrig House

As I was out taking the air this afternoon I bumped into the co-owner of the rather grand Pilrig House. It was great to hear about the history of the building from the 'horses mouth' so to speak

Incredibly, Pilrig House was owned from 1718-1941 by the same family - the Balfours.

James Balfour bought the house in 1718 - with compensation money he received from his father's part in the disastrous Darien Scheme and Robert Louis Stevenson spent a lot of his childhood there.

I've photographed the house before so it was nice to put another piece in the jigsaw.

A nice way to spend a half hour.
