Life through the lens...

Not Bill Bryson's view!

The plan was that today's blip was going to be Bill Bryson's favourite view, But due to the dull weather, and a bit hazy, I'm afraid it didn't photograph well.

Bill Bryson ( author) lived in Kirkby Malham for several years, and that is the village where our walk started today.
Up hill and down dale, to Orms Gill Green, Great Houber, Otterburn, and back.
Cooler today, and no sun, but perfect walking weather.
Along little becks, through wild flower meadows, and woods.Beautiful views of Malhamdale. (though not perfectly clear)

So it is another collage, (Best viewed large) which includes our friends walking back through the meadow, down to Kirkby Malham, where you can just see the church tower.
Wild orchid.
Butterfly.
Church window.
Flower troughs, and old font.
Highland calf.

The church dates from the 9th century. The present building dates from 1199, extensive renovation done in 1871.

There is a memorial inside to John Lambert, who was one of Oliver Cromwell's best generals.
Cromwell visited the church twice for two weddings, and signed the visitors book.
A copy of which can be seen in the church.

In the church yard is the "Watery Grave", where John Harrison and his wife are buried.
He was a sailor and the couple were often separated with oceans between them.
With a real sence of humour, the two agreed that a little stream should separate the remains of Helen, who died in 1890, and John, who followed her 10 years later.
Thus they were separated by water both in life and death!

What a beautiful part of Yorkshire.

Finished off with tea and a very yummy strawberry cake in a café near by!

Just watched Chris Froome win The Tour de France. and England won the second test match.
Another great day!
