St. Francis Seminary

This is the entryway to Henni Hall, the first of the buildings constructed for St. Francis Seminary. 300,000 bricks were made on site & 150,000 feet of lumber was shipped to the seminary, all for use in the construction of this building--the wood was cut from forests in 2 small cities to the north of Milwaukee, & shipped to the site via Lake Michigan. Some of this wood was used by german master craftsmen who lived & worked on the grounds to handcraft these solid wood doors. The center panel of each door features a lion's head. The building was opened for use in 1856 & is still used today.
