Camino Diaries- And we’re off

Our Camino has officially started! We got up quite early to avoid the afternoon heat and it turned out that every other pilgrim had the same idea. It was a really nice start, as we ended up leaving Sarria with lots of very excited people all wishing each other “buen Camino”. The scenery is just beautiful, not too unlike D&G-just much warmer. Most of our walk was through small villages and farms and up a few hills. Unfortunately Amanda’s beautiful sun hat became lost in a rather busy toilet queue at one of the albergues. We tried to retrace our steps to find it, but eventually we had to move on. Around half way today we bumped into a horse covered in flies with another pilgrim trying to ask people for fly spray. We had some so we chatted for a bit, while applying fly spray to the horse. It turns out she’s from South Africa, not too far from where I used to do altitude training. We’ve now arrived in Portomarín where we’ve had a delicious meal and visited the Church of San Nicolas. Now it’s time for bed as we have another long day ahead of us.
