Today's the day ........................ for a bumper crop

This blip is for Marc and Marie Claire.

They were the ones that introduced us several years ago to this new fruit - a cross between a gooseberry and a blackcurrant. It was growing in their garden in south east France, not far from Grenoble. They sent us a cutting which looked like a stick with a few roots. But eventually it grew into a bush and we were able to take more cuttings.

The reason why we have a bumper crop this year is because Will has surrounded the bushes with a sort of wire mesh cage. This has kept the luscious berries out of the reach of the blackbirds that would like to devour them in one sitting.

And today there were enough of them to make jam .................
