A Day Worth Recording

Kew

Today's holiday trip was by train to Kew gardens.

Quite a lot of photo's to choose from but this is the Temperate House, the largest surviving Victorian glasshouse in the world. Curiously despite this accolade it's not the greenhouse that everyone thinks of at Kew - the big curvy palm house.

The Temperate House is closing on Sunday for major restoration (5 years and £34 million) - it's clearly less structurally sound than it looks. They've started to move the plants out. Some are not going to move easily.

I rather liked the mix of Victorian ironwork and palms.

EasyPudding decided to blip the aquarium. Figures.

We spent several hours in the gardens, leaving not far short of closing time. Had a nice, if 'London-priced', meal at The Botanist in Kew before wombling back home (underground, overground,...) via Kings Cross.
