"Brightens Even The Dullest Day"...

...Yes, the scenes of the bright Canola growing in the paddocks in many areas on Yorke Peninsula - and other areas, but particularly on Yorke Peninsula - brightens even the dullest of days..

...This scene was captured on our way out to the Cemetery, not far out of the town where we are staying at the moment..We were on our way out to renew the faded print on my Dad's 51yr old grave headstone..and yes, the brightness of the Canola flowers I think is so pleasant to the eye, and a scene to brighten us up as well..as we eventually repainted the headstone, and it looked much better than when we last visited my Dad..in his peaceful setting along with 3 other generations of my Family..

...So pretty are the paddocks of Canola - looking just like this... Maybe some of you haven't seen Canola seed growing, or even know what it is, so I shall tell you..according to some information I have..

... It is a strain of 'rape'seed' low in erucic acid and is a member of the mustard family..The term 'rapeseed' comes from the Latin word rapum meaning 'turnip', and in high doses, Erucic acid can be harmful to humans..

...Approximately 42% of the seed is oil with around 23 kilograms of seed producing 10 litres of oil.. The remaining meal is a significant component of stock feed in Australia and is a rich source of protein..

...Canola oil is a key ingredient in many frequently eaten foods and is highly sought after..It often replaces non-renewable resources in products including candles, lipstick, newspaper inks, industrial lubricants and biofuels..Canola was bred in Canada in the early 1970's, or maybe earlier, as I recall my family talking about "the paddocks of rape" in the mid-60's..

...But - as beautiful as it appears -it can apparently be the curse of hay fever sufferers! So many pretty scenes presented before us today, but this one - well, it was my favorite..
