Travel and Music

We stopped by the Royal Geographical Society today to look at the "Travel Photographer of the Year" exhibition. Some great images, the majority of them in the garden at the back of the building, where there was also a cafe; it was a very pleasant environment in which to spend an hour or so on a summer's afternoon.

From the garden you can also see the Royal Albert Hall, which was our next stop, for the final concert on our week's Promming Pass - the 8th concert in 6 days. This concert was a complete contrast to all those we had been to previously - described as "a dynamic meeting of musical cultures" - the BBC Symphony Orchestra accompanying "Urban Music" - rap, R&B and soul. It illustrates the wide range of music performed at the BBC Proms and the organisers' willingness to experiment and to try and introduce audiences to unfamiliar musical genres. It was a lively event (and marked a return of the sound mixing desk for this fully amplified performance).
