Good Friday and a visit to the bluebells

We walked to our local woods this morning to see if the bluebells were out - they were, lovely purple carpets of them, but they are so difficult to photograph. Ideally you need an uncluttered woods, no fallen twigs and branches messing up the purple spread of flowers, with lovely soft light, and straight, evenly spaced trees. You can get this but only in selected woodlands so I had to make do with what I had - dull lighting and a very messy woodland.

Gavin is not feeling well - he has had a bit of a tough week, having a cancer scare that an emergency ultrasound proved it to be nothing sinister, now he has incredibly achey joints and a high temperature. He struggled on our walk this morning and spent the afternoon lying down.

I made a gluten free carrot cake - with a lactose free cream cheese icing - as I felt like baking, and thought it would get eaten this weekend with Luke home. I never bake for Gavin and I, that's a bit pointless.

Luke went to fetch his new - well new to him - car this morning in Cambridge and then drove home to our house. Living in London he has not needed a car up till now as he cycles to work on Boris bikes - in the rain, snow and dark - and also walks everywhere. For long trips up north to see Meriel's family they use the train. But for weekends away and when the trains don't run well on a Sunday, it is so useful to have a car. The car is electric, as living in London with all the extra congestion charges etc an electric car was a no brainer.

I am about to make supper now - fish for Good Friday. And check on Gavin.
