A long day
I liked the statue of John Betjeman at St Pancras station. Also Tracey Emin’s I Want My Time With You in pink neon beside the clock. We met up with the rest of our group beside the statue and went through the departure process for Eurostar, which I’d never been on before. Having to put to the back of my mind that we’ll soon be underneath the sea. We whizzed to Lille - at one point the display said we were going at 334 kph. At Lille we swap onto the TGV train and 4.5 hours later we are in Aix-en-Provence in the south of France. Then a coach takes us for hours up into the hills and we arrive, very tired, eat some delicious food, unpack and in my case, fall asleep straight away. There is one whizzing along pic in the collage, there are alps somewhere in the distance… And a reminder with figures that make you feel it’s a good choice to go by train rather than fly. Especially as the electricity will have been produced by nuclear power.
