Sewage?!!!
As those of you who follow our Blips regularly will know................. Ann is a 'sea swimmer'. Actually, she's a 'fair-weather' swimmer and hasn't done much swimming over the winter apart from the Boxing Day Swim & a couple of other dips.
For the last couple of weeks, she's swam about 4 times (last time was on Thursday) and she was looking forward to a dip in the sea this morning before she went to work. However, social media really does put the fear of God into everyone doesn't it? there have been a lot of reports re the sewage that is seeping into the sea at St Ives and warning people (& dogs) not to go swimming. And also some of Ann's 'dippers & swimmers' group are a lot more up-to-date with the effects of sewage and where it is etc, so none of them were swimming this morning.
Instead of going swimming, we trekked around all the beaches between about 7.30-9.00 this morning and didn't see any sign of any sewage??!! OK, there was definitely sewage in the harbour a few days ago because we saw it, but surely sewage moves with the tides?
This Blip is of me at Porthgwidden Beach, where Ann normally swims. Doesn't it look idyllic? In fact all the beaches looked idyllic today. The sun has been shinning, the sky has been blue and there have been loads of holidaymakers people enjoying water activities.................... swimming, surfing, paddleboarding, bodyboarding, paddling, kayaking etc, etc, etc.
Ann says that sometimes 'social media' and having 24/7 access to 'news reports' that are probably days/hours old is 'scaremongering'. People (& doggie owners) need to take responsibility for their own actions and be prepared for the consequences if things go wrong.
Ann doesn't have time to swim for the next couple of days, but if the weather is OK and the sea looks OK to her, she'll be back in the sea, swimming on Wednesday. …...........And NO, she won't be blaming 'South West Water' if she gets sick, because she is an adult and it is her choice to swim in the sea.
Everybody needs to STOP being a victim!!! YES, there is a lot of sewage in the sea at the moment. You only need to look at the map of Cornwall (See extras) to see where it is. And, in my human's opinion, 'South West Water; should definitely be doing something about it, especially as we pay some of the highest water rates in England but as far as swimming is concerned, surely any human (or dog) that swims in any kind of 'open water', be it a river or a sea or a lake, needs to take personal responsibility for where they are swimming???????????
This has been a bit of a RANTY Blip hasn't it. OK RANT over.
…...............Maybe tomorrow will be a better day. Lol!!!
