Another lovely walk

The bus to another town, Fourcalqier. It’s Easter Monday - there’s a huge food market on , each stall has something that looks delicious and good quality - bread, honey, apples, cheese, nuts, dried fruits. We go to a cafe for coffee, the windows are all open, it’s sunny and there’s a pretty vase on each table. We set off walking up up up gradually through mainly oak forest. With some wild flowers growing under. Again some brilliant green barley fields, olive trees, almond and apple too. Distant views of snowy south alps. There is a group of about ten of us, so sometimes we chat as we go along, sometimes we go alone. I keep getting to the back as I’m taking more photos:-)
We stop and look at some shepherds hut, built entirely of stone, about 300 years ago. They are located in little enclosures with very high walls, to keep the wolves out and the lambs safe. Our walking guide, a local man, tells us there’s about 4000 wolves in France, mainly in Provence. Very exciting for me, having met my first grey wolf last week in Bristol. I’ve shown a small hut from the outside, and the inside and ceiling of a larger one, hopefully showing the ingenious construction. I’ve also done a little collage of flowers we walked by. Going to use all my extras this week :-)

In the evening we watched a film of The Man Who Planted Trees, from the book by Jean Giorno. A mythical story of how the hills of Provence became covered in oak trees, and how the trees brought prosperity and happiness to the people. Lovely story.

Main is a borie- stone shepherds hut, first extra shows the inside of a bigger one and the amazing structure of the ceiling. Second is the market, and third a collage of flowers including the ones on the cafe table. Fourth is a field of barley, fifth a nice old olive tree.
