Montjustin
A slightly easier walk today from Céreste to Montjustin, a tiny hamlet perched on the top of a hill. An ancient site, because of the brilliant view of the surrounding area, the little stone houses were restored just after the war, and it became popular with artists, including Lucien Jacques, the cover of whose book I’ve shown. His paintings of this region are excellent I think and really capture the feel of it. The photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson was also connected with Montjustin and is buried in the cemetery.
Again wonderful flowers, including some in gardens - there are more houses here, it’s a very desirable place to live. Though no more can be built, as it’s a national park.
As well as the trees and flowers I should mention the birds - seeing a lot of swallows, swifts and housemartins. Quite a few raptors, who look a bit like buzzards but may not be. And most amazing, on our walk back from Montjustin we heard a nightingale - just near the final extra, a field of barley
