Marjorie's ramblings

More signs of Spring

Today's walk for the Haltwhistle Intermediate Walkers was ably lead by Ray, with Judith as back up. It was quite a lively affair. 20 of us did the 7.5mile route from Brampton.

After a short town trail, we walked to the beautiful Gelt Woods and on to Talkin Tarn. It wasn't too busy for the time of year. Cumbrian schools have gone back to work after the Easter break.

Our return was on the Dandy Line. This is the route of an old railway. Originally, in 1798, a wooden waggon way was built to haul coal from the mines at Tindale to Brampton for sale. Horses dragged the empty waggons uphill to Tindale. Gravity aided the descent and the horses rode back in a "dandy" truck.

The coal field in Tindale may have been mined by the Romans.

The weather was kind and we had a grand day out.

I love the colour and shape of the young beech leaves as seen in my blip. It was windy and they were blowing gently in the breeze.
