Elterwater Quarry

After lunch I took a stroll up from Chapel Stile past the Elterwater Quarry and back to the village of Elterwater, while Smithers rested at our lodge.

I’ve blipped this view before. It’s the site of the disused Burlington Stone Quarry, for which the Lake District National Park has now granted planning permission for a controversial adventure attraction, comprising an immersive cavern explorer experience, zip wire, exhibitions showing the history of the quarry, and a nature trail.

A legal challenge to the development has been raised by the Friends of the Lake District, and a Judicial Review is to be held in Manchester tomorrow, 30th April, to decide the outcome.

PS When I enlarged the photo, I was amazed to see what looks like a drone (or a very large moth!) high above the quarry in the sky to the right of the picture. Can anyone see it?
