On the Camino
Today we started our journey walking the Camino de Santiago ( Way of St James). There are many routes to Santiago de Compostela but we have chosen part of the Portuguese Coastal Way, starting from Vigo ( so actually entirely in Spain).
Today's walk was 22km long, mostly on wide tracks, through woodland, with lovely views over the Vigo estuary, with 460m of ascent and 493m of descent. It's very well waymarked and we came across and were overtaken by many other ' pilgrims ' so it's hard to get lost. We found a number of interesting wild flowers and heard a couple of turtle doves. The forecast was for many showers but we only got wet twice.
Along the way are a number of pop-up stalls selling souvenirs, drinks and fruit- see blip. They also offer a stamp for our Pilgrim's Passport. We need to collect at least two stamps per day as proof we have completed the day's walk.
We arrived at our hotel in Arcade at 5.30pm.We were relieved to see our luggage was already here! It gets transported daily, so we only have to carry our day pack.We were glad of an early fish supper ( turbot and monkfish) in the adjoining restaurant. We now feel rather tired and our legs a bit stiff!
Extra shows a glorious waterfall we encountered during the day.
