Marjorie's ramblings

Jonathan Coe

I spent a lot of today sorting through boxes in Mum’s workroom. I’m taking various cars fit materials to a craft fayre in Bellingham next weekend.

It’s quite emotional as I handle the last materials she was using to make cards in the week before she died, but I feel quite comfortable with the task.

5is evening I went to hear Jonathan Coe speaking in Hexham Book Festival about his latest book, The Proof of my Innocence.

I liked him a lot. He spoke intelligently and thoughtfully. Towards the end he talked about reaching the truth through fiction, which is what he believes he does.

He also told us that his first three novels were not taken up by countries outside the UK because “they were too English.” His next novel was very successful abroad because “it was SO English “!

The interviewer, Jacqui Hodgson is always well informed about the authors and their books so she asks good questions.

Apologies for the poor quality of today’s image.
