Pontevedra

We've had a more relaxed day, exploring Pontevedra. It has many buildings of interest built in the Baroque style, and quaint little squares and streets full of bars, restaurants, bakeries, smart clothes shops etc. The centre of the city is pedestrianised which is a joy.
The blip is of Igrexa da Virxe Peregrina ( the chapel of the Pilgrim Virgin) which was built in the Late 18th century. The pilgrim Virgin  is patron saint of Pontevedra and the Portuguese Way. The chapel has a scallop shaped floor plan( the scallop shell being the symbol of the Camino de Santiago Compostela) and other scallop emblems in its design. We were able to ascend its dome for a view of its interior. See first extra.
The second extra shows Lena Square, where originally firewood was sold, given it its name.

Also, today, I received the excellent news that my Mother is  quite a bit better than when I left home a week ago, and has been out of bed and  sitting in her armchair. My sister C is travelling from Cornwall,  tomorrow,to see her which I am sure will delight her.

(As an aside, we found the most excellent laundrette just 100m from our hotel, and were able to wash and dry our clothes In an hour for 7euros! )
