325 Monday — Celebrating
Anniversary is on our top rung of the Celebration Ladder the entire month of May. Also the final post-surgery check-up happened for me late this Monday afternoon at the periodontist office in SLO, so when I finished there, of course, we added that to the celebration ingredients we were stirring today. Mr. Fun and two pups were waiting for me in the car. I got in, buckled my seatbelt and said, "These are your choices: We can enjoy dinner at the 'Del Monte Cafe' (near the train station) or have a delicious burger at 'Firestone' or dine at the 'Copper Cafe' at the Madonna." Then I paused and added, "We could go home to barbecue some burgers." Without thinking this option was serious, I added, "We could bust the piggy bank at 'Nate's on Marsh'." In less than a microsecond he responded, "We're going to Nate's!"
I don't know yet what we will do on May 29th this year for our 60th wedding anniversary, but what we did for the fifth day of May was a classy touch of elegance that he knows I thoroughly enjoy -- white table cloths and a server who acts like we are the only patrons he is serving. We celebrate because, well because “We’d do it all over again”! As Mr. Fun & I near our next wedding anniversary, we are enjoying a month of celebrating each day. "Enormously comfortable" is how I describe eating with the person who has been a witness to my life more than any other person.
In our lives God's declaration that "two are better than one" has been immensely true. We're big fans of marriage -- because it's worked for us. We do know that marriage isn't for everyone. We agree with Steve & Cokie Roberts, though, who have so aptly expressed in their book about marriage, "We are better people together than we are separately." So yes, we’d do it all again. We have never regretted celebrating, but we have regretted not celebrating! A trail of confetti is spreading out behind us. This is so fun!
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
