Leading The Life Of Riley(s) At The North Pole
Today was intended to be a quieter and less stressful day than yesterday's mouse based melodrama but ended up including a trip to the North Pole (albeit a public house rather than the northernmost point on earth), encountering automotive excellence, Easter egg purchasing, yet more wildlife (alive this time) drama and catching a stinking cold!
The day had started with an early run in my new running shoes (a very kind gift from my brother) and then putting a humungous wash on as nobody else had deemed it tackleworthy.
Run and laundry completed (or at least put out to dry) we felt in need of some liquid based refreshment and decided to return to the North Pole pub at Wateringbury. We never have a particularly effusive welcome when we visit this establishment but what it lacks in hospitality it makes up for with a glorious little pub garden, which for some odd reason other patrons seem rather averse to. So once we'd purchased our pints we immediately headed back outside and happily found we had the whole garden to ourselves.
On the way in we'd noticed a couple of classic cars (on closer inspection they both turned out to be Rileys) and thought they might be a good subject for our respective blip images for the day. Unfortunately, the glorious electric blue model parked right outside the pub's entrance was surrounded by parked cars of a much more modern persuasion and I couldn't quite get the angle I wanted when we encountered it again on the way out but I still managed to get my main shot of the wonderfully stylish dashboard through one of the windows - which rather fortunately included it's very own mini-me version! The extra is another model parked further along the car park which was much easier to get access to and I concluded looked better in mono.
It was then on to Easter egg purchasing on the way home where the stirrings of a cold, I'd woken up sneezing and with the start of a sore throat, really began to make their presence felt. So we headed back home where I was banking on a quiet afternoon watching some telly whilst starting on dosing myself up with cold and flu tablets.
We'd just settled in when we started to hear an ominous scratching sound in our chimney. As we listened on we could hear the distinct flapping of wings. On removing our electric fire we were faced with a extremely dust covered pigeon. I did try to get hold of it but my brother had the much better idea of covering it with a sheet upon which it became much calmer and we were then able to release it back outside with only the minor loss of a couple of feathers. So much for a quieter, less stressful and eventful day than yesterday! :-)
